Men, Mission and Money: An Invitation
Currently 0/5
by Mel “Red Cloud” Taylor As chair of the board of directors, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with many men who have chosen to be of service to our community. This service has taken many forms—volunteering to cook thousands of crawfish; calling men about staffing or paying dues; cooking a weekend’s worth of food for a weekend training adventure. Two men in particular spend time each week volunteering at the MKP lodge answering the never-ending ringing ...

Live Big, Fear Big, Love Big
Currently 0/5
Paralysis or Action? Doubt or Faith? Cowardice or Courage? Pessimism or Optimism? Mistrust or Trust? Caution or Risk? Atrophy or Growth? Fear or Love? The journey into our inner worlds requires courage, openness and surrender. Because the inner world is a world of shadows, subconsciousness, emotions and early programming, continuous work is needed in order to achieve deep discovery and illumination of my inner forces. Not only is discovery of my inner ...

So You’ve Never Staffed A Weekend?
Currently 0/5
At the July 2007 Warrior weekend, we had a staff of 44 initiated Warrior brothers. Included on the 44-man roster were seven men from my Tuesday night I-group: Steve Abramowitz, Abel Dimas, Andrew (Mac) Hopkins, Lewis Jones, Steve Miklos, Bill Nelson, and yours truly. The youngest man on the July staff was in his early 20’s, the oldest man was 75 years young. The July staff were wild men who knew how to work and play, and they also evolved into very wise men. We started ...

First Annual Fall Gala
Currently 0/5
I am pleased to announce the first annual MKP Fall Gala, which we are co-hosting with our sister organization, Woman Within. I am fortunate to be co-chairing the event with my good friend Julie Boon and to be joined in service by a host of hard-working and passionate people from both organizations. I want to be clear about my personal motivation in doing the event, and what it represents to me and, in my observation, to others on the event committee. This gala will, I ...

Mike Leone, Lionman, November ’98, Margaret Austin. I stand in the East, the place of new beginnings. Indeed this issue of the DRUM is in many ways a new beginning for me. I’m back as DRUM Editor. After stepping down from the Editor spot I discovered that I had a lot of sadness around leaving it, sadness that sometimes expressed itself as anger toward myself or others in other situations, until I dealt with these feelings in I-Group a while back. After addressing the ...

Darkness Loss
Currently 1/5
Darkness Loss by Matthew “Blessing Panther” Fox The sun went down but darkness never came. All night stores, midnight bankers, and the new street lamps outside my window— All in the name of safety and convenience, have driven the night sounds and Shadows Deep into some hidden forest that I find only briefly In the still somewhat private closet of my own fitful sleep. My ears are filled with clicks and beeps— And my body is bombarded by the constant onslaught of ...

MKPI Research – Why Houston
Currently 0/5
Brief history: Previously, the MKP Research Council created a Research Team (the "Team") to evaluate the impact of participation in MKP centers in various areas where MKP has Centers. The Team piloted MKP research in 2003 and consisted of members of the existing MKP-GW Research Team started in 1997 (Ken Maton, Clinton Anderson, and Chris Burke, affiliated with the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; and non-MKP member Eric Mankowski, affiliated with Portland State University), and Tom ...

FIRST MKP HOUSTON “COMMUNITY MEETING”
Currently 0/5
The first MKP Houston Community meeting happened on March 3, 2007 and over 90 warriors were present. The meeting began with one of the Elders invoking our ancestors and relatives to join us in and give us wisdom and good insights as we did what we were summoned to do. . Mel Taylor, 2007 Board chair, stated the purpose of the meeting: "To gather the community at least once a year to hear ideas, find out what men want, and to plan and grow the organization as a visible entity in Houston and to be ...

Houston – An Integration Machine?
Currently 4.5/5
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting & staffing with numerous men from other Warrior communities, they are all impressed with the number of men we initiate. Time & time again I hear Houston referred to as “the weekend machine”. Well, the wind is changing directions. Integrating has been idling in neutral, while we had the hood up tinkering with the engine and swapping out the “drive-train” and now is the time to roll-out Houston’s new machine; the Integration ...
